SUB10KEF Instruction Manual

SUB10KEF

Power ON/OFF

Press and hold the power button to turn the torch on or off.

Power Control Ring

The SUB10KEF has a 11 step magnetic power control ring which controls brightness by increments of 10% (0% - 100%). At 0%, the video light is in standby mode and uses minimal power with no illumination from the torch.

Always power off the video light when not in use after each dive.

Mode Selection Knob

The mode selection knob switches between the 3 colour options available on the SUB10KEF.

Left - 5600K (Daylight Colour)

Middle - Ambient Blue (Deep)

Right - Ambient Blue (Shallow)

Display

The LED display at the rear shows the power level (in percentages), remaining burn time and has indicators for the colour mode in use.

When the power ring is turned, the display will show the corresponding power level for 4 seconds before reverting to remaining burn time left.

Burn time (remaining battery time left) is automatically adjusted based on the power levels. Lower power levels offer a longer burn time.

3 LED indicators show the colour mode in use.

WHITE - 5600K (Daylight Colour)

GREEN - Ambient Blue (Deep)

BLUE - Ambient Blue (Shallow)

Light Head Cover

The light head cover has been designed for use during dives. A bungee cord allows the cover to be conveniently stowed along the body of the SUB10KEF when the torch is in use. When the glass dome of the light head requires protection, simply pull the cover back up over the dome.

Batteries

All SUBNOX batteries may be charged via USB-C directly.

A charging LED is built onto the battery management system.

RED - Charging

GREEN - Fully Charged

Battery Cautions

DO NOT charge batteries unattended.

DO NOT attempt to open the torch or video light if the torch or your hands are wet.

DO NOT use batteries that appear damaged or have corroded contacts.

ALWAYS use battery contact covers (For video Light battery packs) when charging to protect battery contacts.

ALWAYS use high quality chargers and USB-C cables.

Care & Maintenance

Always soak the SUB10KEF in fresh water after use.

While soaking in fresh clean water, turn the knobs and the power ring to ensure all the salt water is flushed out.

Wipe dry the SUB10KEF after soaking to prevent water marks from forming on the body or the glass dome

Lubricate O-Rings found on the light head occasionally or before storing for long durations. There are 2 O-rings found on the light head. A standard black O-ring and a secondary flat O-ring with 3 sealing grooves.

Usage Instructions

The SUB10KEF utilises a patented light head with 3 specially tuned LEDs. It offers settings to use a 5600K daylight colour, a specially tuned ambient blue light for shallow waters (5 - 13m), and another specially tuned ambient blue light for deeper waters (12 - 20m).

Ambient blue light is best used when the camera you are using has a red filter, and/or if the camera has been manually white balanced at depth. This combination will give even colours throughout the footage.

For night dives, ambient blue isn’t required. Videographers should use the 5600K Daylight colour setting on the video light instead. Cameras should also be set to a white balance of 5600K or to the “Daylight” white balance setting when using white light settings.

TIP 1 - If your camera has difficulty achieving a manual white balance setting underwater. You may use the SUB10KEF to help create presets on land. Use a white slate in a dark room and attempt to do a manual white balance with the 2 ambient blue light settings to create 2 presets. Remember to use the correct preset with the corresponding ambient blue colour setting on the torch during dives.

TIP 2 - The ambient blue settings work well for users who choose to manually colour correct footage after dives during the editing process. The ambient blue settings give even colours on subjects lit either by ambient light or via the SUB10KEF. This includes editing done via AI.

TIP 3 - Macro subjects generally do not require ambient blue light settings UNLESS you are attempting to capture background in the distance as well. Always remember to use the correct white balance settings on your camera to match the colour settings on the SUB10KEF.

Blue-green or Green waters

The SUBNOX SUB10KEF comes standard with a blue light head for blue water use. For waters that are bluish green or green, light heads are available for purchase as a separate accessory.
